<p>Working with Dieste Boxcar was tasked with a 3 phase initiative to build a site that allows users to upload a profile pic, tell there story and upload supporting videos and pictures. Users are able to vote on their favorite stories and share those stories on Facebook, using a poster share function that was built into the site. The site also uses a dynamic grid system to display profile pics that users upload.</p>

Recently I attended a luncheon for the DFW American Marketing Association, and I had the privilege of hearing the CMO of Mary Kay, Rhonda Shasteen, speak.  After attending several, but not many, luncheons, it was refreshing to have someone just &#8220;talk&#8221;.  There was no power point presentation or data showing ROI, etc., just an intelligent and charismatic speaker giving her advice and opinions after 30 years of success in business.</p>
<p>I wanted to share some things she shared with us.  Some of this may seem like common sense, but we all need a few reminders now and then&#8230;<br />
Marketing is an ART&#8230;not a SCIENCE - I recently read this in an article on adage.com as well.  I realize we all want our measurements, our tracking, our &#8230;., but if it becomes too much of a science, we lose what Marketing is really supposed to be&#8230;an art, a creative form.</p>
<p>Other tips on succeeding in business and advancing your career in Marketing:<br />
Understand Sales<br />
Understand Operations<br />
Understand Finance<br />
To understand Marketing - you need to know these other elements of your company and how they are run.  It will only help you do your job better.</p>
<p>Soft Skills to Advance Your Career - (here is where the common sense should kick in, but you would be surprised&#8230;)<br />
Deep understanding of People<br />
Excellent communication skills<br />
Get yourself out of the way<br />
Get comfortable with conflict - not look for it - but be comfortable with it<br />
Speak the truth<br />
Get rid of control issues - you can control your thoughts, your actions, your words - LET THE OTHER GO</p>

<p>Advanced Beauty Systems came to us with one of their product lines Bodycology.  They were in the process of promoting a creative strategy - “What’s Your Bodycology?”.  The assignment was to take this newly branded product line and ultimately form an online community, celebrating the brand and the women who use the product.</p>
<p>The online initiative began with a banner campaign (standard/rich).  The RICH component included an in-banner quiz with email capture.   At the same time, the standard banners drove users to a landing page with the same quiz/email capture functionality.</p>
<p>The “What’s your bodycology?” banner campaign coupled with the insightful Media Buy of our partner, Gauge Digital, netted nearly 40,000 additional email addresses in less than eight weeks time.   The interaction rate was 24.29% for one creative and 12.12% for the other creative, which surpassed the industry standard interaction rate of 7.64% The conversion rate from visits to email sign-ups was 6% which also beat the industry rate that usually is between 1% and 6%.</p>
<p>Boxcar then “challenged” the above collected email database to help create <strong>MY bodycology</strong> – an online portal for women.  Emails were sent inviting users to vote on possible areas of content that would ultimately be - <strong>MY bodycology</strong>.  The potential areas of content include: Fitness, Beauty Tips, Celebrities, Health (real age), Fashion, Value, Parenting, Household Tips, Horoscopes, Nutrition, Finances, Success Stories, Editorial.  Voting was a fun, interactive experience – a true reflection of the brand.</p>
